Bernhard Rinner received both the masters degree and doctoral degree in computer engineering (“Telematik”) from Graz University of Technology in 1993 and 1996, respectively. He is a full professor at the University of Klagenfurt, where he heads the Pervasive Computing group.
Currently, he is deputy head of the Institute of Networked and Embedded Systems and vice dean of the Faculty of Technical Sciences. Before joining the University of Klagenfurt in 2007, he was with Graz University of Technology and held research positions at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin in 1995 and 1998/1999.
He has authored or coauthored more than 240 papers in journals, conferences, and workshops. His current research interests include sensor networks, multirobot systems, self-organization, and pervasive computing. He regularly teaches an undergraduate course on the design of digital circuits as well as graduate courses on sensor networks and pervasive computing. So far, 25 students successfully completed their doctoral studies, and over 70 students completed their master theses under his supervision.
Bernhard Rinner is a member of the board of the Austrian Science Fund and chairs the doctoral advisory board of the Faculty of Technical Sciences. He is an Associate Editor of the Ad Hoc Networks journal and has cofounded the ACM/IEEE International Conference on Distributed Smart Cameras. He has served as a Guest Editor for various special issues, including the Proceedings of the IEEE, the IEEE Computer Society journals, and the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing. With partners from four European universities, he has jointly initiated the Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate Program on Interactive and Cognitive Environments (ICE).
